The Husky – Florence Jr/Sr High School
This home was built in partnership with students from Florence Jr/Sr High School, the Florence Home Builders Education Program (Home Bi-Ed), and Careers in Construction Colorado (CICC): an industry-supported program bringing hands-on training to the next generation of construction professionals.
For more than 40 years, the Florence Home Bi-Ed Program has given students the opportunity to build a house from the ground up. Last year’s project—a 3-bedroom, 3-bath ranch-style home in Florence’s High Meadows subdivision—showcases the skill, dedication, and craftsmanship of local students. Working alongside licensed professionals and industry mentors, students gained real-world experience from framing to finishes, turning classroom lessons into career-ready skills.
Teacher Anthony Lozano shared, “We are incredibly lucky to have the Florence Home Builders Education Program in our community. This program bridges the gap between school and real-world expectations after graduation.”
Students also gain additional career-ready experience through CICC, earning industry-recognized certifications, sharpening employability skills, and connecting with future job opportunities. Tristan, a junior, said, “This class has made me a better carpenter, which is what I want to do after I graduate,” and Damon added, “I’ve gotten more personal help for my future in this program than anywhere else.”
