CICC STUDENTS VOLUNTEER WITH HBA CARES
The HBA Cares Woody and Millie Ingram Guest House offers a sanctuary for those who need a place to stay during challenging times, providing much-needed solace and support. CICC students were involved in various tasks, from cleaning and organizing to ensuring the facilities are accessible and well-maintained. Their hard work and compassion reflect the spirit of community service and demonstrate the impact young people can have when they come together for a cause.
LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL HOME BUILD COMPLETION
Liberty High School celebrated the completion of their CICC Home build! A 1,200 sq. ft., 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom modular home. After 2.5 years of hard work, students unveiled the home and handed the keys to the Victoria, a former classmate. Student Ayden shared, “I’m super happy to see this done, but I am also so sad to see it go.” Thank you to all the Home Build supporters for making this project a reality and showcasing our community’s teamwork and dedication!
MONTE VISTA HIGH SCHOOL FIELD TRIP
Fading West Development hosted 15 students and took them on a tour through their facility as well as two model homes. Students also heard from six guest speakers at Fading West: the Environmental Safety Manager, Architecture and Drafting expert, Lean and Process Manager, VP of Construction, Director of Construction, and Human Resources Director. After that, students visited Wood Mizer and learned about milling wood from Scott Rogers.
SOUTHERN COLORADO CONSTRUCTION CAREER DAYS
Over 600 students from 20 schools across the Pikes Peak region came together last year to explore exciting career pathways in the construction trades, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience! More than 45 companies participated, each offering hands-on activities for the students. Activities included operating a backhoe, riding on a scissor lift, learning the art of bending conduit and wiring, a nail driving contest, pouring concrete, laying brick and tile, and much more.
MANITOU SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL HOME BUILD COMPLETION
Last fall marked a momentous occasion as Manitou Springs High School celebrated the completion of their Home Build project. The community members, partners, staff, board members, and students had come together to applaud the outstanding achievement of many Manitou students. These students built a magnificent 1,200 square foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom modular home that embodied their dedication, hard work, and learning.
STATE SKILLSUSA COMPETITION
In April, CICC students from 18 schools across the state traveled to Pueblo to participate in the SkillsUSA State competition, where they distinguished themselves by securing first, second, and third place in all skilled trades categories, including teamworks, carpentry, electrical, cabinetmaking, plumbing, and masonry, highlighting the opportunity for these students to showcase their skills firsthand in front of industry members.
SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL TINY HOME
Summit High School students completed their Tiny Home project! The completion ceremony was attended by over 50 member companies of the Summit County Builders Association, who contributed to the construction of this 288-square-foot tiny home. This collaborative effort involved SCBA, Colorado River BOCES, Summit High School, and CICC. Some of these students secured positions with the tradesmen who helped build the tiny home. They are on track to start their next tiny home project in the fall!
Since completion, the Tiny Home was featured in the Town of Frisco’s 4th of July Parade and won 1st place for best float!
IGNACIO HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERS WITH THE SOUTHERN UTE CULTURAL CENTER
Students at Ignacio High School have undertaken a meaningful project: creating custom cedar benches for the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum. Initiatives like these can profoundly influence students, shaping their understanding of their role in fostering a stronger community. Kudos are due to their instructor, Molly Turner, for her dedication and guidance in imparting valuable skills to students while making a positive impact on the community.
CITY OF AURORA PARTNERSHIP
In April, Aurora city council members approved a resolution that provided builders with the option to contribute money from their permit fees to support the Careers In Construction Program. These funds are earmarked to bolster the HBI curriculum for Aurora Public Schools involved in the Careers In Construction Program. During the press conference announcing this initiative, students from Gateway High School had the honor of meeting the Mayor of Aurora and other city council members.
